German company will test security

Germany's secunet Security Networks AG is entering the U.S. market for Common Criteria security evaluation after acquiring TUViT Inc. of Austin, Texas, now called Seculab Inc.

TUViT was one of the first independent Common Criteria evaluation labs accredited by the National Security Agency and the National Institute of Standards and Technology. It is the first accredited both in this country and Europe.

Products that meet the international Common Criteria for information technology security are given preference in U.S. government purchasing. By July next year, certification will be mandatory for all secure products bought by agencies.

The accredited evaluation labs in the United States are operated by Coact Inc. of Columbia, Md.; Computer Sciences Corp.; the CygnaCom Solutions Inc. subsidiary of Entrust Technologies Inc. in McLean, Va.; Science Applications International Corp. of San Diego and Seculab.
