Rumba upgrades PC-to-host apps

NetManage Inc.'s PC-to-host access software, Rumba, now has Secure Sockets Layer 3.0 authentication and interactive help.

The Rumba 7.0 client application connects users to Unix and OpenVMS mainframes and IBM AS/400 hosts, officials of the Cupertino, Calif., company said.

The new version has an accompanying client application, SupportNow, which sets up a live, interactive chat session with a help desk representative. The representative can be from NetManage, if the user's agency has a service contract, or from the agency's own help desk, product marketing manager Sona Kumar said.

The SupportNow client gathers relevant configuration file settings from the user's computer for the help desk personnel so they need not visit the computer, said product manager Jim Raisio.

Rumba 7.0 follows the International Telecommunications Union's X.509 standard for generating digital certificates. Under Microsoft Windows 2000 or Windows NT, Rumba 7.0 complies with Section 508 of the Rehabilitation Act Amendments of 1998, Raisio said.

Rumba 7.0 lists for $400 per seat.
