Customs moves NYC ops to JFK, Jersey

All 760 employees who worked at the severely damaged Customs House at World Trade Center Building 6, adjacent to the north tower, are accounted for.
Commercial operations at the building have been relocated to facilities at John F. Kennedy International Airport and Port Elizabeth, N.J., a Customs spokeswoman said.
The agency lost 900 PCs that were used by Customs workers and an additional 150 computers that were yet to be installed, she said.
The service is maintaining its highest alert status at land borders and all ports of entry in coordination with the Immigration and Naturalization Service and Border Patrol, the spokeswoman said.
The borders with Mexico and Canada are open to traffic and commerce.
Customs officers will be deployed at airports nationwide to assist the Justice Department in providing increased security, she said.
