The Air Force will use products from BroadVision Inc. of Redwood City, Calif., and Plumtree Software of San Francisco to consolidate hundreds of legacy systems at 110 bases into a single point of access.
The Air Force this month awarded BroadVision a four-year, $13 million contract for its main portal products, One-to-One Enterprise and InfoExchange Portal. Plumtree received a $2.4 million contract for Plumtree Version 4.0.
The products will be integrated into the Global Combat Support System, said Robert Frye, director of the Standard Systems Group.
'We specifically looked for products with the required functionality that integrated well,' said Lt. Col. Mark Bryant, Air Force portal program manager.
'The Air Force strategy is to implement a multiproduct solution for the enterprise portal,' he said.
The portal will merge about 700 legacy databases and hundreds of applications and make a wide variety of information'from personal data to frontline combat intelligence'available to authorized users throughout the service.
The portal implementation is still a prototype, Air Force officials said, and will be tested before it is rolled out enterprisewide.
