Army upgrades notebook PCs, servers via BPA

The Army renewed its Desktop and Mobile Computing-1 contract this month with its first $1 million order under a blanket purchasing agreement with Intelligent Decisions Inc. of Chantilly, Va.
Under the initial order, the Army's Communications-Electronics Command Acquisition Center at Fort Monmouth, N.J., bought rugged 4000ITR steel, rack-mounted dual-Pentium III servers from Technology Advancement Group Inc. of Dulles, Va., and notebook PCs from Sony Electronics eSolutions Co. LLC of Woodcliff Lake, N.J.
Other small vendors will distribute products from Compaq Computer Corp., Dell Computer Corp., Hewlett-Packard Co. and others.
The Army also refreshed a $300 million BPA with Intelligent Decisions under the same contract to upgrade its Sony portables.
The new notebook models, which run a choce of Microsoft 2000 or XP, include Sony's GR Series with 933-MHz and 1-GHz Intel Pentium III processors, the 900-MHz Vaio All-in-One FX and the 850-MHz Vaio R505.
