Candle powers up for WebSphere

Omegamon middleware from Candle Corp. will run in IBM Corp.'s WebSphere environment as well as under Microsoft Windows NT.

Omegamon Extended Edition for WebSphere Application Server monitors WebSphere's availability and alerts administrators to performance degradation, said John Kogel, a vice president of the El Segundo, Calif., company. It also reports activity levels for Enterprise Java Beans servlets and Java Server Pages.

The base Omegamon XE systems management suite is a pure Java client that runs through a Web browser, Kogel said. Users can customize the content that appears through their browsers and, over time, build up workspace libraries to preserve institutional memory of projects.

Omegamon Dashboard Edition, an extension to Candle's Omegaview II, combines information from multiple Omegamon XE monitors into one screen view for IT managers, Kogel said.

Omegamon XE for WebSphere Application Server lists for $3,000 per processor, with the estimated average configuration about $17,000, marketing manager Mary Hall said. Omegamon XE for Windows NT starts at $440 per server; Omegamon DE costs extra.
