CIO Council plans a virtual job fair in April

The CIO Council and Industry Advisory Council will hold a virtual IT job fair in mid-April.

The week-long event would screen potential employees by asking them to take a technology aptitude test, complete a skills inventory and assess their project management skills. The candidates would then be ranked on a list from which agencies could hire them.

Details have not been finalized, but the councils plan to hold the job fair either the week of April 15 or the week of April 22.

The CIO Council hopes to hire several thousand IT employees to avoid a worker shortage. An August 2001 study by the National Academy of Public Administration found 50 percent of the government's 59,577 IT workers will be eligible to retire by 2006.
