So far this year, about 4.8 million users have filed income tax returns from home computers, a 40 percent increase over last year, according to the IRS.
'We're seeing strong growth in e-filing [from home] this year,' said Terry Lutes, director of the Electronic Tax Administration. 'Greater accuracy, faster refunds and an acknowledgment of filing are benefits of the e-file experience.'
The IRS also noted an increase in one-stop tax filing, with more than 11.5 million taxpayers jointly filing their federal and state returns electronically. That's a 20 percent increase over last year.
