Sprint merges its state and federal services
Sprint Corp. will consolidate state and federal marketing operations by year's end. Services to municipalities continue at the local level.
State telecommunications accounts will become part of the Government Systems Division, said Cathy Clements, regional vice president of sales. The change is in response to states' homeland security and budget pressures. Cooperation with federal agencies 'is easier if you have the same supplier' of network services, Clements said.
Sprint provides frame relay service in a federally funded program to link state and local law enforcement agencies with the FBI's National Crime Information Center and the Integrated Automated Fingerprint Identification System.
