New GoBook sheds water but not weight

The new 1.7-GHz GoBook II is one of the first rugged notebook PCs to sport a mobile Pentium 4 processor.

Itronix Corp. of Spokane, Wash., lists the GoBook II for $4,495 and will soon discount it on General Services Administration schedule, said marketing vice president Matthew F. Gerber.

The GoBook II comes with Microsoft Windows XP or 2000. It supports dial-up and several types of wireless connections: IEEE 802.11b and Bluetooth plus three wireless WAN protocols: Code Division Multiple Access, Cellular Digital Packet Data and General Packet Radio Service.

The 7.9-pound magnesium unit outweighs its 6.2-pound GoBook Max predecessor but has a much larger, 12.1-inch LCD touch screen and a similar glow-in-the-dark keyboard.
