President Bush has nominated Army Maj. Gen. Steven W. Boutelle for promotion to lieutenant general and assignment as the Army's CIO.

Defense secretary Donald Rumsfeld earlier this month said Bush had made the nomination. Boutelle is replacing Army CIO Lt. Gen. Peter Cuviello, who is retiring after three years in the job. One of Cuviello's primary objectives during his tenure was development of the Army Knowledge Online portal.

Boutelle currently is director of information operations, networks and space in the Army CIO office.
