Callahan will not seek a second term as the president of AFFIRM

The Association for Federal Information Resources Management last week said Laura Callahan, the embattled Homeland Security Department senior director in the CIO office, will not run for a second term as the organization's president.

Callahan asked for her name to be withdrawn from the ballot. She was seeking the position unopposed, so it seems likely that Scott Hastings, CIO of DHS' Immigration and Customs Enforcement Bureau, will become the next president.

He is the only candidate for the vice president post, and AFFIRM's bylaws call for the vice president to ascend to president if necessary.

Association members were scheduled to elect a new board last Friday, June 13, at their annual awards luncheon.

AFFIRM also postponed its President's Dinner, where Callahan was to be feted, until the fall when a new president has taken charge. It had been set for June 21.

Callahan assumed the presidency in January after former Environmental Protection Agency chief technology officer Debra Stouffer, then AFFIRM president, left government for an industry job.
AFFIRM also named members who are running for other board positions. All are unopposed and so will likely make up the new board:
  • For the two co-vice presidents of programs: Michelle Heffner, director of interagency management in the General Services Administration's Electronic Government and Technology Office, and Harold Klink, vice president of SI International Inc. of McLean, Va.

  • For the two co-secretaries: Lisa Akers, deputy director of GSA's Federal Systems Integration and Management Center, and Kenneth Touloumes, vice president of business development for Titan Systems Corp. of San Diego

  • For the two co-treasurers: Mark Day, deputy CIO of the Environmental Protection Agency, and Leslie Barry, director of business development for Computer Associates International Inc.
