Emory Miller said goodbye to 37 years of government service last month with a bash in Alexandria, Va., that saluted his professional and personal sides.

Miller, the General Services Administration's popular director of professional leadership, officially retired this month. He started as a systems manager for the Army and worked at the Housing and Urban Development Department before joining GSA in 1996.

Among his accomplishments were starting the CIO University and the Strategic and Tactical Advocates for Results program, and helping to develop the Trail Boss program.

OMB's Karen Evans presented Miller with a letter of appreciation from President Bush during the reception.
