JFMIP certifies PeopleSoft 8.8 for government

The Joint Financial Management Improvement Program has certified PeopleSoft Enterprise Financial Management Solutions 8.8 as a core federal financial application.

Version 8.8 of the financial software from PeopleSoft Inc. of Pleasanton, Calif., is the fifth such application to gain JFMIP certification under the 2003 qualification test.

The browser-based software, released by PeopleSoft at the end of 2003, handles electronic submission of reports, automated adjustment of transactions, and reimbursable agreements for cross-servicing and outsourcing.

The company designed Version 8.8 around the most recent JFMIP requirements, said Julie Gustafson, PeopleSoft's manager for educational and government financial management products.

The interagency JFMIP sets standards for core financial management applications. Its testing simulates an entire fiscal year over the course of two weeks, Gustafson said.

The certification is valid for three years. If PeopleSoft makes another major upgrade within that period, it will have the upgrade tested for certification, Gustafson said. Two previous major releases also had JFMIP certification.

Waiting game

PeopleSoft has about 25 federal financial management customers, said Don Arnold, director of business development for PeopleSoft's federal division.

When the new JFMIP requirements took effect last summer, PeopleSoft faced an internal dilemma, Arnold said. The earlier JFMIP certification was running out, but Version 8.8 was not yet ready.

The company chose to wait until Version 8.8 came out in order to get the most recent code base certified.

Other vendors of JFMIP-certified software are American Management Systems Inc. of Fairfax, Va.; Digital Systems Group Inc. of WarminsterSystems Inc. of Fairfax, Va.; Digital Systems Group Inc. of Warminster, , Pa.; Oracle Corp.; and SAP Public Services Inc. of Washington.
