Three agencies combine biotech regs on portal

Agricultural biotechnology regulations from three federal agencies have been brought together at a single portal.

The site, usbiotechreg.nbii.gov, is a 'one-stop shop for people who are interested in regulation of biotechnology,' said Megan Thomas, a spokeswoman for the Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service.

APHIS and portal partners the Food and Drug Administration and Environmental Protection Agency share responsibility for regulating agricultural biotechnology.

At the heart of the portal is a database of regulatory reviews of genetically modified crop plants. Users can search by product name, scientific name, applicant name, engineered traits such as pest resistance, events or keywords.
