Convera makes taxonomy just for feds

Search classification company Convera Corp. has developed a new taxonomy specifically for federal e-government efforts.

The Vienna, Va., company's U.S. Government Taxonomy consists of categories that would help citizens who are not experts on government organization find information they are seeking about public services and legislation, company officials said.

Taxonomies are hierarchical frameworks for organizing data, and information specialists use them for implementing Extensible Markup Language schema or mapping data from one system to another.

Convera designed the U.S. Government Taxonomy for use with the company's RetrievalWare search platform and its Taxonomy Workbench product for editing taxonomies and incorporating them into information retrieval systems.

The company also recently introduced industry-specific taxonomies for genetics, finance, technology and large business enterprises.
