With 10 days until tax day, here are a few cyberstats (as of mid-March) about how the filing season's been going so far for the IRS.
  • 43 million plus: tax returns filed electronically, up more than 11 percent over last year

  • 10 million: people who prepared and filed returns from their home computers, up 23 percent

  • 36 million plus: refunds deposited directly to people's bank accounts, up more than 10 percent

  • 13 million plus: visits to the IRS' online 'Where's my Refund?' service, compared to about half that many last year

  • 72: the hours ele
  • ctronic filers must wait before checking the status of their refunds via the online service
  • 20: the number of errors identified by the IRS as most commonly made in preparing tax returns.
