FBI revamps its CIO office, IT projects

FBI systems chief Zalmai Azmi earlier this month sent an electronic communication to all bureau employees about the agency's reorganized CIO office, which has broad authority over IT management.

CIO Azmi said the message describes how bureau resources have been realigned to form the new office. The CIO office includes about 500 FBI employees as well as contractors.

'The biggest thing is that any new project will have to go through an approval process,' Azmi said.

To be approved, a project must be evaluated by CIO officials for conformance to the goals of the president's management initiatives as well as the bureau's investment management plan, portfolio management process and strategic plan.
