Free app to manage Web site content

A Defense Department intelligence office will offer agencies a free, customized open-source application for Web content management.

The Joint Intelligence Center Pacific at Pearl Harbor, Hawaii, has hired Zope Corp. of Fredericksburg, Va., to tailor the ZopeforIntranets application, or Z4I. The application itself is a commercial modification of the open-source Zope content management system.

Because the modifications are part of a federal services contract, the results will be free to other agencies, Zope CEO Robert Page said. A fine-grained collaborative workflow module should be finished by the end of summer, he said. Zope and the intelligence center have not yet decided on the distribution mechanism.
