Group hopes to standardize geospatial data

The overseers of the Geospatial One-Stop e-government portal want to standardize methods of data exchange among geographic information systems.

The Federal Geographic Data Committee is drafting a framework of standards for the National Spatial Data Infrastructure. Public comments on the proposed framework will be accepted for 90 days at www.fgdc.gov. The framework covers seven geospatial data themes: geodetic control, elevation, orthoimagery, hydrography, transportation, and cadastral and governmental unit boundaries.

The 19-member committee represents federal agencies and the Executive Office of the President.
