Car companies like Honda and BMW have started placing auxiliary ports in the dashboards of some models so users can play devices such as the Apple iPod through their car stereo speakers.

With the iCarPlay Wireless by Monster Cables Products Inc. of Brisbane, Calif., you don't have to trade in your car to listen to an iPod.

It wirelessly connects to one of eight FM radio stations and comes with a digital charger that efficiently charges the iPod via the 12-volt cigarette lighter in your car, so you can use it without having to worry about battery life.

The preset FM channels that the iCarPlay uses are 88.1, 88.3, 88.5, 88.7, 88.9, 89.1, 89.3, 89.5 MHz. Select a station on the iCarPlay, set the car radio to the same station, and you can play tunes from the iPod. At $69.95, it's affordable and easy to use.

But what happens when you're out of the car and need a group to hear a presentation from your iPod?

Monster also makes iSpeaker, a set of portable speakers originally designed to transmit sounds from an iPod but which connect to devices using a standard auxiliary cable. You can use them to project sound from almost any computer with a sound card.

With four AA alkaline PowerCell batteries, you can use the iSpeaker continuously for more than eight hours. The speakers come with the batteries and a three-foot mini-to-mini stereo cable.

Sound from the 5- by 5.5- by 1-inch iSpeaker is decent, although a little tinny. But with an output of 2W per channel the sound is loud enough for most situations.
