Carroll becomes CIO in Ohio

Ohio Republican Gov. Bob Taft has appointed Mary Carroll, a long-time state technology employee, to serve as the state CIO, the governor's office announced this week.

Carroll will set the strategic direction for the state's IT operations and continue efforts to centralize IT planning and development efforts within state government, Taft said in a statement announcing the appointment.

Carroll has been acting state CIO since Feb. 14. She previously served as deputy state CIO for the Investment and Governance Division of the Ohio Office of Information Technology since January 2004.

Before the creation of the Office of Information Technology, Carroll was deputy director for the IT Governance Division within the Ohio Department of Administrative Services. Carroll also was the agency CIO at the Ohio Bureau of Employment Services, where she held various IT positions since 1975. She is a graduate of Ohio State University.
