HHS signs up Unisys to help standardize IT

The Health and Human Services Department has hired Unisys Corp. to guide the department toward IT standardization.

Terms of the three-year, $65 million contract call for Blue Bell, Pa.-based Unisys to support 8,000 HHS employees across eight operating divisions. The contract also has one two-year option worth about $35 million, the company said earlier this month in a statement.

The project aims to increase interoperability, decrease costs while improving service delivery, and enhance constituent satisfaction. It will transform the eight operating divisions from a government-owned, contractor-operated environment into a contractor-owned, contractor-operated environment.

Unisys will provide and refresh regularly all desktop and computing assets and offer managed services. These include desktop support, server support, service desk, server consolidation, continuity of operations and disaster recovery, training, application and server hosting, security operations, system and network monitoring, and database and application administration.
