Tech brief | Flexible supercomputing

Cray Inc. of Seattle announced that its future supercomputers will be built on a uniform, modular platform, starting sometime in 2007. This will allow users to mix and match, in a blade-like fashion, the number of scalar and vector processor-based boards, as well as other components, said Christopher Jehn, vice president of government programs for the Seattle company. The company will also start developing compilers for these heterogeneous environments.
