The 19-inch Eizo S1931SH is a great performer that scored extremely well in almost every test we threw at it. It wasn't the top monitor in overall quality, but it was very close.
And considering you have to pay only $629 for its fine detail and excellent performance, the Eizo S1931SH is a perfect choice for agencies that don't need the biggest LCDs on the market.
The S1931SH has a native resolution of 1280 by 1024 and an impressive 1,000:1 contrast ratio. That latter spec is appreciably better than the standard 800:1 ratio on most monitors, making for crisp, fine images. It comes with a stand that lets users freely manipulate the LCD, from tilting the display, to pivoting it into a vertical position.
The S1931SH is obviously well constructed. Absolutely no extra backlight bleeds onto the screen. When displaying an image in the center of a black field, the black remains true black, even around the frame where other monitors tended to let in white light that washes out the field.
Users who work heavily in graphics will appreciate the S1931SH's superior contrast ratio, which in our tests translated into highly detailed images, even when reproducing multiple colors.
If we had to quibble, its gray field display left a little to be desired, although it fell within acceptable ranges. Consider your applications before purchasing.
Ultimately, though, there's nothing that would keep us from buying the Eizo S1931SH. It may not quite be in the class of the NEC LCD2190Uxi, but it costs less than half as much, making it a steal for this kind of quality.
