The Community | How the West was VOIPed



As part of its overall preparations for the fire season out West, the Agriculture Department's Forest Service set out to ensure communications between its offices by installing voice over IP communications equipment. But in Coconino National Forest in Arizona crews had to tread lightly, because Coconino hosts endangered species and significant archaeological sites. So, technicians from Qwest Communications International Inc. of Denver, who installed the system, took to horseback to perform the job.
