NetApp's faster data recall

GCN tech brief

Network Appliance Inc. of Sunnyvale, Calif., (www.netapp.com) has added a new feature to its NearStore Virtual Tape Library that allows administrators to stash multiple backup copies on disk. NetApp's NearStore VTL works by first backing up material temporarily to disks (cutting the backup window considerably) and then eventually off- loading the material to tape.

The new feature, Shadow Store, lets users keep multiple time-stamped copies of material on disk, which can speed recovery time should recent material need to be recalled.
