Citrix goes virtual
GCN tech brief | Citrix to acquire XenSource, a provider of vitrualization software
Citrix has announced it plans to acquire XenSource, a provider of virtualization software, for approximately $500 million. The sale marks Citrix's entry into this growing field. Virtualization allows multiple operating systems to run simultaneously on a single server. Using virtualization software, agencies can run applications written for different operating systems ' including obsolete ones ' on the same machine, which can save in hardware costs by eliminating the need to buy a separate computer for each application. The purchase comes on the heels of the release of Version 4 of XenSource's XenEnterprise, the company's flagship virtualization product.
