Microsoft, Citrix team on virtualization

Microsoft and Citrix Systems have
combined to provide desktop and
server virtualization with Windows
Server 2008. The companies plan
to co-market new client computing
products with the next generation of
Citrix Presentation Server and the
Citrix XenDesktop, based on
Windows Server 2008 and
Windows Optimized Desktop solutions
that will be managed by
Microsoft System Center. The next
version of Citrix Presentation Server,
planned for release in the second
quarter this year, will extend
Windows Server 2008 by enabling
users of Microsoft's upcoming operating
system to run Windows application
workloads remotely. Citrix
XenDesktop will support Windows
Server 2008 shortly after the availability
of Hyper-V, a hypervisorbased
virtualization feature available
as a part of Windows Server 2008.
