Government Computer News is honoring 10 government agencies and five executives whose information technology initiatives are being recognized as the best of 2008.

The GCN Awards embody one of the most sought after and respected accolades in government IT, and GCN's fall awards gala attracts a perennial 'Who's Who' across government and industry. Now in their 21st year, the GCN Awards recognize federal, state and local government for extraordinary IT accomplishments and significant contributions to the performance of their agencies.

DISTRICT OF COLUMBIA, OFFICE OF THE CHIEF TECHNOLOGY OFFICER

Cut construction time and costs in half for a new facility by introducing a new wiki-based procurement tool that fostered collaboration and transparency.

FBI REGIONAL COMPUTER FORENSIC LABORATORY UNIT

Reduced forensic examination times by 25 percent to 30 percent with a new Case Agent Investigative Review tool that processes digital evidence more effectively.

NEBRASKA OFFICE OF THE CIO, NETWORK SERVICES SECTION

Improved emergency response capabilities with a new Mobile Disaster Recovery Communications vehicle providing interoperable, multimodal communications.

OFFICE OF THE DIRECTOR OF NATIONAL INTELLIGENCE

Developed a benchmark enterprise architecture framework and implementation strategy for an Information Sharing Environment now being adopted across the federal government.

OHIO OFFICE OF THE TREASURER

Dramatically increased the use of state investment funds by creating a new, automated GrowNOW Online Economic Development Application System.

ARMY

Significantly enhanced the accuracy of millions of medical records captured in the MC4 casualty care program, helping to improve medical care decisions.

CITIZENSHIP AND IMMIGRATION SERVICES VERIFICATION DIVISION

Engineered significant system upgrades to support rapidly escalating number of data queries in CIS' E-Verify and Systematic Alien Verification and Entitlements systems.

U.S. JOINT FORCES COMMAND

Launched the HarmonieWeb Global Online Disaster Relief Collaboration Environment ' an Internet-accessible communications platform to coordinate civil and military responses to multinational disasters.

MILITARY HEALTH SYSTEM, OFFICE OF DEFENSE HEALTH SERVICES SYSTEMS

Improved the quality, safety and efficiency of health care for 9.2 million Military Health System beneficiaries by building the Clinical Data Mart, which dramatically improved data query and processing times.
