Phoenix's online Office tools

Remember when Bill Gates shook up Microsoft in 1995 with a memo calling for a change in direction to make the software giant relevant in the age of the Internet? Maybe it's time for another memo.

Phoenix Technologies has introduced a suite of free Microsoft Office-compatible applications that run on its HyperSpace platform. HyperSpace is an alternative Internet-based operating system, which means you don’t have to wait for Windows to boot up. What’s more, Phoenix claims that its operating system imposes a significantly smaller drain on battery life. And if you need to run Windows for something, you can quickly load it up simply by pressing a key combination. More information is available at www.phoenix.com.
