MPC closes, auctions off remnants over Web

MPC Corp., the company that took over Gateway Inc., is having a Web-based public auction this week and is auctioning off $50 million in unsold inventory.

The company, based in Nampa, Idaho, at one point had 2,000 employees. MPC acquired Gateway in October 2007 and filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy in November 2008.

In recent years the company concentrated on education and government sales.

An auction company, Great American Group, will run a three-day auction of all of MPC's remaining equipment and parts over a Web site, beginning March 11 at 10 a.m. MST. Items up for auction include thousands of laptops, desktops, servers, LCD monitors, components and office furniture.

Interested bidders can register here.

The auction will be both in person at the MPC offices in Nampa and over the webcast.

The company's Web site, www.mpccorp.com, now offers a link to the Web-based auction. The MPC site and a minimal support site will both go dark as of March 31. The sites don't list any contact phone numbers.
