Accela rolls out Automation 7.0
Company adds Silverlight, mobile apps

Accela has announced two products, a mobile version of its software, Accela Mobile Office, and an updated version of its flagship enterprise product, Accela Automation 7.0.
Accela Mobile Office features touch-screen capability and was designed for use in rugged outdoor environments, Accela representatives said. The software is designed to help mobile government workers with tasks such as inspections, investigations, code enforcement and scheduling. It gives them remote access to the same data available in the office.
Mobile Office offers geographic information system mapping features, integrating Microsoft Bing maps and routing support from ESRI’s ArcGIS Server. Users can overlay maps and create mashups. Built with Microsoft Silverlight 3, the mapping tools give users a better way to navigate, said Brian Wienke, Accela’s GIS product manager.
Mobile Office uses bigger buttons so field users can keep their gloves on, Wienke said. People in the field don’t want keyboards, he said, so Mobile Office relies on touch screens.
“Citizens around the world have cut the cord and gotten used to obtaining information and services wherever and whenever they want them,” said Maury Blackman, president and CEO of Accela. The mobile app anticipates this trend, he said.
Accela Automation 7.0, the latest version of the company’s flagship enterprise application, helps agencies with process sharing, transferring data and streamlining other government tasks such as permitting, licensing and emergency response.
Built on a Silverlight framework, Accela Automation 7.0 can be customized for specific roles, so users only see what they need to do their job. The software is available in five modules that support specific government tasks: land management, asset management, licensing and case Management, public health and safety, and service request.
