Iomega unveils rackmount storage for workgroups

StorCenter ix12-300r supports 250 users, offers 24T worth of networked storage

Iomega has launched the StorCenter ix12-300r network storage array, a rackmount storage device designed for workgroups, departments and branch offices.

StorCenter ix12-300r supports groups of up to 250 users and provides up to 24 terabytes of networked storage in a 2-rack unit form factor. It’s designed to work well for network- attached storage and storage area network data storage, backup to disk of critical business data, shared storage for virtualized environments such as Microsoft Hyper-V and VMware vSphere, and application-specific storage such as Microsoft Exchange.

The storage array mounts in an EIA-310 standard equipment rack and starts with 4T and 8T base configurations that can be expanded in increments of 4T or 8T for a total capacity of 24T.

StorCenter ix12-300r uses EMC LifeLine software, a Linux operating environment. The ix12 can be configured with different levels of Redundant Array of Independent Disks support, including RAID 5, RAID 6, RAID1 and RAID 10, all with automatic RAID rebuild, as well as a single volume of storage.

StorCenter ix12-300r goes on sale May 10 from CDW and starting in mid-June can be bought from Iomega’s U.S. channel partners for $5,000 for the 4T model.
