Legislative alert app highlights hackathon
An app that would send out real-time alerts when a topic will be debated or voted on at a public meeting was a highlight of the CityCampSF Hackathon, event sponsor Granicus Inc. said on its blog
, held Dec. 10 and 11, brought together coders, designers and researchers, as well as professionals from government and journalism, to produce applications that promote civic engagement and openness in government. Government Technology reports
that one team that took part in the hackathon used Granicus' and Tropo's application programming interfaces to develop a prototype of an application for legislative alerts delivered via text message. The app would allow users to choose topics by keyword and receive text alerts when those subjects are scheduled to be discussed or voted on by a governmental body.
Another team developed an app that would monitor logging and clear-cutting in the state of California and present the information using an interactive heat map, Government Technology reports.
