Google: Privacy changes won't affect government clients

The changes to Google's tracking policy announced this week will not apply to its government clients, the Washington Post reports.

As GCN reported, Google on Jan. 24 rolled out changes to its privacy policy and Terms of Service that will allow tracking of user activity across almost all of its services — including Gmail, Google+, Google Maps and its search function — to provide what the company called on its blog a "simpler, more intuitive Google experience."

But on Jan. 26 the company released a statement saying that the new policies do not trump existing deals with public-sector clients. Google Vice President of Enterprise Amit Singh said contracts covering enterprise and government accounts remain in force, including those for Google Apps for Government, Google Apps for Business and Google Apps for Education.

"The new Privacy Policy does not change our contractual agreements, which have always superseded Google's Privacy Policy for enterprise customers," Singh said.
