NEC EA294WMi monitor

A widescreen monitor takes input from smart phones

Many very large format monitors feature a multitude of input options, which makes it easier for an agency to make an (also large) investment in buying the display.

Now NEC Display Solutions of America is bringing that same flexibility down to the desktop level with the EA294WMi, a widescreen 29-inch LED-backlit LCD that has six inputs. Those include both DisplayPort and HDMI. There are two DVI-D ports with dual monitor support.

And it even has two VGA D-sub inputs, which means that most smart phones can be attached to display their content on the larger screen. In addition to just the hardware ports, software lets the monitor show side-by-side images, with two of those sources coming up on the screen at the same time.

The EA294WMi joins the MultiSync EA Series of monitors. The EA294WMi has a panoramic view, 21:9 aspect ratio, uniform color brightness and 2560 by 1080 native resolution. It consumes 29 percent less power than dual 19-inch monitors with similar LCD panel technology, a setup the new monitor’s elongated screen would likely replace. The monitor is TCO Certified Edge 1.2, a supplemental certification for ergonomically and environmentally friendly design.

The EA294WMi features IPS panel technology with wide viewing angles (178 degrees horizontal/vertical) and ergonomic adjustability. ControlSync technology allows users to control up to six EA294WMi displays in a multi-monitor configuration. After  establishing one unit as the master, users can control many performance attributes of the multi-monitor setup in unison through the single monitor.

The MultiSync EA294WMi ships with a 3-year limited parts and labor warranty and will be available in early May at an estimated retail price of $799.
