Securing the New Mobile Client

In January, the Federal CIO announced initial plans for the development of a Federal Mobility Strategy focused on expanding and integrating the use of mobile devices and applications across government activities. While this direction is welcomed by public sector officials seeking new ways to maximize operating budgets and personnel resources, significant questions remain concerning the security of these devices and the data they store and share.

While Federal technologists are seeking to deliver government information and services by leveraging more commercially-available and cost-effective mobile devices, they also are focused on the challenges of privacy protection and information integrity that are introduced by the range of mobile devices in use. There is no denying as one INFOSEC authority recently noted that “these devices significantly extend network attack surface.”

Join FCW’s Editor-in-Chief, John Monroe in this discussion with COL Jeffrey Schilling, Chief, Current Ops Army Cyber Command/NETCOM and Mr. William Corrington, Principal, Stony Point Enterprises and former CTO, Dept. of the Interior to hear about:

  • Technical vulnerabilities in the mobile environment
  • Practical, proven ways to address inherent security concerns
  • Essential ingredients of effective mobile device management
  • How to design security policies to address current mobile devices
  • Strategies for incremental, but “forward-leaning” approaches to make progress
