Look to proven e-gov strategies, CIO Council says

For the Office of Management and Budget's 24 e-government initiatives to work, project leaders must rely on proven strategies, one agency executive says.
Agencies should focus on successful techniques that industry and government have used, said Jim Van Wert, the Small Business Administration's e-government project manager and senior adviser for policy planning and e-government.
To that end, the CIO Council earlier this month released the first in a series of best-practices white papers.

Industry and government teams outlined the issues, success factors and recommendations for the Business Compliance One-Stop and the Geospatial One-Stop projects.
'We are building a knowledge base that is important because it is applicable across the board for all e-government projects and agencies,' said Debra Stouffer, co-chairwoman of the CIO Council's Best Practices Committee and the new chief technology officer at the Environmental Protection Agency.
