Virtual Space: True shock and awe'

The view from above

NASA established the Earth Observatory Web site as a free online destination for satellite imagery of everything from volcanic eruptions to dust storms in the Gobi Desert. The site currently features some of the most stunning pictures available of the devastation caused by last month's tsunamis in Asia. This image, provided to NASA by DigitalGlobe Inc. of Longmont, Colo., shows the flooding of Kalutara, Sri Lanka, an hour after the first waves hit. To view more images, go to www.gcn.com and enter 346 in the GCN.com/box. Then consider surfing over to www.redcross.org.
