Va. public utility awards Avineon data conversion project

The Department of Public Utilities in Richmond, Va., has awarded a geographic-information system conversion contract to Avineon, an information technology services provider.

The data conversion project will focus on the agency's gas, water, wastewater and street lighting systems. The project, according to Avineon, will create an integrated geodatabase using ESRI's ArcGIS software. Avineon's task also spans the development of data models for each utility, a data maintenance application and an application that will generate a paper map from the geodatabase.

Avineon's subcontractors on the GIS deal are EMA and Mansai. EMA's background includes GIS consulting and application development for municipal customers. Mansai provides IT professionals to a range of customers.
