Alcatel-Lucent's new speed record

The combined U.S and French research team of Alcatel-Lucent successfully transmitted a world-record 25.6 terabits/sec of optical data via a single fiber strand using 160 Wavelength-Division Multiplexed channels ' enough bandwidth to transmit the data from more than 600 DVDs per second. That is a major boost comared with the previous transmission record of 14 terabits/sec, set in September 2006.
