SOA Governance

GCN Insider | Microsoft has extended its Workbench product to work closely with BizTalk Server 2006, Release 2

Microsoft's BizTalk Server is emerging as an important service platform for business process management and automation. So it seems logical that any information technology or business manager deploying the server has to make sure it fits into their organization's overall service-oriented architecture strategy.
Enter SOA Software.

The company has extended its Workbench product to work closely with BizTalk Server 2006, Release 2.

The goal is to allow BizTalk users to automate business processes and ensure that the resulting applications are secure, reliable and in compliance with enterprise and regulatory policies, said Ian Goldsmith, vice president of product management and marketing.

'BizTalk has become an increasingly popular solution for business process automation,' Goldsmith said. 'What are missing are security, management and mediation. We've added that into BizTalk.'

Now, he said, BizTalk users can govern, secure, mediate and manage the policy and life cycle of any type of SOA service deployed and accessed on any computing platform.

SOA Software's Workbench is deeply integrated with Microsoft's Enterprise Service Bus Guidance Toolkit and offers essential governance capabilities for BizTalk Server, including:
  • Closed-loop governance, which defines, manages and governs policies through a central registry/repository. This function enforces policies through distributed-service platforms such as BizTalk Server and audits that the policies are being enforced.
  • Uniform policy management, which helps Workbench ensure that services consumed and provided by BizTalk Server are enforced, implemented and in compliance with a common set of centrally defined and governed policies.
  • Heterogeneous governance automation, which provides comprehensive life cycle, policy and consumer management workflow capabilities to automate the governance processes for services exposed and consumed by BizTalk Server and any other enterprise service platform.
