    Open-source cuts both ways

    The Numerator:

A recent survey of 218 civilian and military federal agencies found that 71 percent of information technology decision-makers believed their agencies could benefit from open-source software, and 55 percent already use it. However, it was interesting that security was cited as both a drawback and benefit to open-source.

30% Cited open source's advanced and

multilevel security capabilities as a top benefit
40% Have not implemented open source

    because of security challenges
