    Virtual Directory Server 5.0

Radiant Logic has rolled out RadiantOne Virtual Directory Server 5.0. The latest release of the VDS greatly simplifies the deployment of identity integration, company officials said.

The new VDS 5.0 is wizard-driven, so users can capture what they need, said Michel Prompt, chief executive officer of Radiant Logic. It turns the complex process of identity integration into a simple point-and-click operation, he added.

VDS 5.0 has a three-step wizard, which connects all back-end sources to the virtual directory within minutes. The new version simplifies the process of consolidating and authenticating users from multiple Microsoft Active Directory forests and domains, different databases and other identity sources. The Virtual Directory Server then makes this identity information appear as one common virtual LDAP v3 compliant directory that is fully compatible with Sun, Red Hat and Netscape directories.

Earlier versions of the product also took longer to deploy, according to Prompt.

'The science was strong and good, but it was a bit technical,' he said. 'When you're talking about an organization that has 300,000 people, the development might take more than one to three weeks to be in service.'

Many RadiantOne VDS users are in the military, especially the Air Force, Prompt added.

Sometimes an organization will have many different logons for one user. 'One could call me Michel, one could call me Michael and another Mike,' Prompt said. VDS 5.0 lets an organization aggregate different sources, then correlate them. 'You can detect the person in System A as in System B as in System C,' he said. 'So you don't force them to remember that many passwords.'
