GCN LAB IMPRESSIONS

Taking in the environment at FOSE

FOSE is a pretty big deal with the GCN Lab. Every year in the months leading up to it, we have meetings with various members of the show staff as to what role we will be playing in the proceedings. We may be doing different things with each passing year, but we are always happy to help out where we can.

On April 3 and 4, for example, John Breeden and I will take turns hosting a couple demonstrations in the Government Solutions Theaters right on the show floor, so be sure to look for us.

But regardless of our scheduled obligations, the best part for me is my first opportunity to get out and run free on the exhibition floor. It is really nice to have a bit of unscheduled time to walk amid the booths and see for myself what new technologies and services soon will be upon us. Fortunately for me, this window of opportunity came to me shortly after the floor opened today.

So, with anticipation I put on my blue lab coat and ventured forth. I have to add that the lab coats are an extra treat, since we don’t usually wear them except for events like FOSE and the occasional episode of GCN Lab TV. It makes us stand out, and people immediately know they are talking with a Lab reviewer.

The floor as usual was a bustle of activity. At the booths were makers of computers, printers, peripherals and software, in addition to colleges, corporate trainers and government agencies. Every type of entity that has something to do with government technology was represented. I got to say hello to folks I’d worked with in the past, and saw many new faces as I learned about their product or service.

As usual, most of my time at FOSE is taken up with meetings and scheduled events, so I enjoy the time I get to go down on the floor. And it was just getting started. Stay tuned for product news coming from the floor.
