Texas retirement trust modernizes to boost benefits system performance

The Texas County & District Retirement System is modernizing legacy systems to efficiently administer employee benefit plans with improved workflow management tools.
The multibillion-dollar public trust will use case management technology from Pegasytems to enhance member services, respond more rapidly to customer needs, and improve information security and controls.
Created by the Texas Legislature in 1967, TCDRS helps Texas counties and districts provide reliable disability, survivor and retirement benefits to 225,000 members. TCDRS has more than 620 participating employers.
State, local agencies can streamline buying with 'procurement as a service'
The retirement services organization is always looking for ways to become more agile in how it serves members, said Amy Bishop, deputy director of the retirement system.
Pegaystems and the iBridge Group are working together to modernize and make TCDRS’ systems more agile. Pegasystems offers a unified business rules management system that includes process flows, integration, user experience, case management, security and governance in a common platform.
This model lets iBridge use Pegasystems’ technology to directly capture business objectives and automatically generate system, user and testing documents based on these objectives. Automated functions in Pegasystems’ software reduce mundane programming tasks such as audit trails, security and system documentation, iBridge officials said.
The modernization will allow TCDRS to:
- Improve flexibility to meet clients' changing needs and enhance services over multiple channels.
- More efficiently administer the benefit plans of the 620 participating employer organizations with improved workflow management tools.
- Improve information security and controls.
- Implement continuous improvements to allow for quicker delivery to customers and reduce overall project risks.
