Migration tool reduces risk and cost of SharePoint upgrades

Preparing for and conducting a platform or software upgrade can be expensive, time-consuming and disruptive for government agencies. Administrators need a clear picture of the current potential risks before they begin a migration of important content.

To help agencies better prepare for inevitable upgrades, Metalogix added a new tool to its suite of SharePoint applications that can help administrators reduce the risk and cost associated with  migrations in SharePoint, Microsoft’s collaboration and content management software platform.

Migration Expert analyzes a user's current SharePoint environment and provides steps for migrating content onto newer versions of the software, including SharePoint 2013 and Office 365, Microsoft’s cloud-based messaging and collaboration platform.

It quickly scans the SharePoint platform, including Web applications, content databases, and sites against Microsoft recommended thresholds. After the scan is complete, Migration Expert delivers findings against 60 metrics in PDF reports that can be used by both technical and nontechnical business users, officials said.

Metalogix worked closely with SharePoint users and industry leaders to develop Migration Expert. The product is based on 12 years of SharePoint experience and the migration of more than 50,000 terabytes of content, company officials said. Migration Expert is powered by the same technology as Metalogix’s Content Matrix migration tool, and is available as a free download.

Agencies are now showing interest in SharePoint 2013, which offers simpler content sharing, a better social enterprise tool and advanced search, according to industry experts. Agencies are also deploying SharePoint in private clouds or moving to Office 365.
