OpenDocument Format now ISO standard

The International Organization for Standardization has approved the OpenDocument Format as an ISO standard, according to the ODF Alliance. Used in the OpenOffice suite among others, and developed under the auspice of OASIS, ODF is a set of XML-based specifications for saving word-processing, spreadsheet and other office documents. 'With adoption of ODF by ISO/IEC now assured, software that implements the standard will now become more attractive to those European and other government purchasers for whom global adoption by ISO/IEC is either desirable, or required,' writes standards attorney Andrew Updegrove.
