HHS to streamline e-mail services
By Mary Mosquera, GCN Staff
The Health and Human Services Department has contracted with Unisys Corp. for secure e-mail services to improve crisis response and employee collaboration. The move also advances the OneHHS initiative to streamline the department.

Unisys will modernize and standardize HHS' diverse messaging infrastructure into a single system based on Microsoft Exchange Server and Microsoft Identity Integration Server. The contractor will host and manage the HHS messaging system remotely and provide managed security services, including intrusion detection and prevention. Unisys also will consolidate servers at HHS for the new e-mail service.

The contract, signed in February but announced yesterday, is worth up to $31 million for one base year and four one-year options. Unisys will receive $8.6 million for the first year.
